For years it was so frustrating to not know what happened to patients after they walked out the door on their last visit. Some would simply go home and return to the same sedentary lifestyle they had prior to their rehabilitation. Some would be ready to go back to their gym, but would be afraid of "undoing" what progress they had made in therapy should they "over-do-it" and resorted to "playing it safe." Some would do very well on their own and return to their previous activities or recreational sports and we would look for their names in the newspaper.
Well, just as our ways of communicating have changed, so has the Heartland GC clinic. We no longer have only physical therapy to offer you and then send you on your way. We now have several avenues for you to remain a "partner for good health for life." Specifically, Movement is our general wellness program that allows the once patient to use the clinic as their personal gym with a supervised program for treadmill/elliptical/bike and weight training programs. Secondly, Defined Movement is for anyone who wants to exercise in our gym plus have fitness coaches who monitor your loss of weight, loss of inches, and body fat/BMI reduction. In addition, each month we schedule 20 minutes together to sit down and assess your progress/update your exercise program and review your food journals and your overall successes or note revisions that are needed. This program is our most popular and is extremely economical. Next, our signature S.T.E.P.S (Skills to Encourage Participating in Sports) program, is a physician-referred children's weight management program that gives the child fundamental skills to encourage physical activity either on the playground or on a recreational sports league in the community or at school. We have seen children change from couch potatoes to participating more in gym class to students progressing to school athletics from this program. This program requires family commitment to supporting this child and consequently has the potential to change the entire family.
We also offer group classes that do not require membership to our gym, but can be attended by anyone in the community. We will have an updated list of quarterly classes in our office that we would be happy to mail, fax, or email to you that include: PT Fitness Assessments, Beginners Ball Class, Intermediate Ball Class, Basic Yoga (winter quarter only), Body Sculpting, Competitive Body Building, Walk/Run to a 5K, Total Gym Personal Training, "It's a Novel Idea" Book Club, Healthy Cooking Class (once a month) just to name a few.
You have the ability to purchase our time for soft tissue work, kinesiotaping, exercise program development, ASTYM, weight management and more with packages of "Moments of Expertise" ranging from 60 to 120 minutes. These minutes can be used in increments that are designed by you.
So, as you can see...we do more than just rehab. We hope to have you participating in one or more of our programs either as a discharged patient or a member of the community that will progress you toward better overall fitness and a more active life. Come and try it! We know you will like it.

We Are More Than Your Typical Physical Therapy Clinic
Since I have been around a while in the profession, I am thankful to be able to offer you a place that is more than a place for rehabilitation, but a place to change the way you look at yourself and the life you live. There have been many people who have come into our clinic knowing no one and leave with a few friends. There have been times that we even have people "stop by" just to visit. We take knowing your name and sharing in a part of your life several times a week a privilege and we want to give you more than a good progress note back to your physician, but an opportunity to renew your life with a foundation of better overall health and wellness.
It pleases me to tell you that we are a faith-based staff, who find our ministry to our patients as being a safe place for you to come and heal. It is difficult to lose physical abilities that directly impact your daily life, your job, your family, your own image of yourself and we rely on more than ourselves to help you through your personal recovery.
I hope we have patients who will post their personal testimonials here on this blog and we all will be encouraged to do what we do each day for the greater good. I will post testimonials that I receive from our Complimentary Care Line, so look for those as well.
Truly, Jen, Tyler, Jennifer and myself are honored to work with you in our clinic.

Putting A Name With A Face

While we have been growing in staff members, we have been together as a unit for three years.
Currently, Jennifer Anderson is our evaluating therapist. She will create your plan of care from the referral we receive from your physician. If you are a Direct Access patient, Jennifer will create a plan of care for you and send it to your physician of record for his signature. Jennifer is a 2000 graduate from Bowling Green/Medical College of Ohio. Her most recent certification is Balance and Dizziness Correction (January 2010).
Tyler Goode, a new graduate from the Physical Therapist Assistant program at Hocking College in 2009, joined us as a student with a strong background in weight training and bodybuilding and was licensed in physical therapy in August 2009. His most recent certification is Balance and Dizziness Correction (January 2010).
Michelle Edwards is a 1992 graduate of Shawnee State University in the Physical Therapist Assistant program and a practicing clinician for over 17 years serving in outpatient settings, as well as skilled nursing facilities, acute rehab hospitals, subacute rehab facilities and home health agencies. Her most recent certifications are ASTYM (December 2009) and Balance and Dizziness Correction (January 2010).
Jennifer Ulery is our Patient Care Coordinator and she will help you verify insurance coverage and set up your initial evaluation appointment. She will be able to answer questions regarding scheduling and programs that we offer to assist in your rehabilitation process.
Welcome to Heartland GC, Your "Partner For Good Health For Life"

Heartland has served patients in the Grove City and surrounding areas for over seven years and I proudly joined the ranks in May of 2007. I am currently the clinic director and have been blessed with a staff that places serving those who come through our doors with integrity and individualism. Presently, we have a P.T. and two P.T.A.s on our staff, as well as a friendly and helpful Patient Care Coordinator. Heartland is a comprehensive physical therapy center focusing on your diagnosis and your functional needs.
Heartland GC recently completed a facility renovation to service our patients and gym clients more efficiently in November 2009. Now that the walls have been moved and space has been opened for a larger gym area, we have added group classes as well to give clients more to choose from as we "partner for good health for life."
Heartland would like to give you the opportunity to get to know us better and we would love to serve you in your recovery from injury, surgery, or simply deconditioning and then help you manage your recovery by adding you to our gym family.
We look forward to hearing from you or meeting you in person at the clinic.
God Bless You,
Michelle Edwards, P.T.A, Clinic Director
